In 1960 Lt Col L Gregory CO Junior Leaders Regiment, Royal Corps Signals, together with Major Parker and Captain Joyner, founded the Ten Tors Expedition. Then it was a 55 mile hike covering ten tors within the Dartmoor National park. Each troop within the Regiment entered a team.
The Denbury Boys was the name given to Junior Leaders Regiment, Royal Signals (previously known as the Royal Signals Boy Soldiers). Based in Denbury Camp, Newton Abbot, South Devon, the regiment was an active participant in the first and subsequent expeditions.
In 1961 the Ten Tors was made open to the public developing into what it is today. [See "Royal Signals Return to Ten Tors", an article in the Wire, August-September 1973.]
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Ten Tors a team of Ex Junior Leaders have entered a team to take part in the Ten Tors on May 8th - 9th 2010.
The Team will consist of up to 10 members lead by Bob Etherton with a non walking Team Manager, John Topping.
